The Gregg-Upshur County Medical Society is the physicians’ local professional organization, whose primary purpose is to encourage the highest ethical standards of medical practice and to serve as an avenue for physicians to collectively address health care issues of importance to the profession and to the area. The society provides a physician information service, a speaker’s bureau, and a mediation committee as community services to the covered counties.
As members of the Gregg-Upshur County Medical Society, physicians pledge to uphold the American Medical Association’s principle of ethics:
The medical profession has long subscribed to a body of ethical statements developed primarily for the benefit of the patient. As a member of this profession, a physician must recognize responsibility to patients first and foremost, as well as to society, to other health professionals, and to self. The following Principles adopted by the American Medical Association are not laws, but standards of conduct which define the essentials of honorable behavior for the physician.
